Nevada mandates impairment rating certification by statute. If you perform workers' compensation impairment ratings in Nevada, NIRSAT™ certification is not optional. It is a legal requirement with no grace period for non-compliance.

Nevada physicians: This is required by state law for all physicians performing workers' compensation impairment ratings.

Course OVERVIEW

What Is the Stress-PTSD Program?

The Stress-PTSD Program addresses a significant gap in standard impairment rating methodology. The AMA Guides provide no framework for evaluating psychological impairment from workplace stress or post-traumatic stress disorder. This 8-hour course, developed by practicing clinicians, provides the clinical and legal framework for performing defensible psychological impairment evaluations in workers' compensation cases. A completion-based assessment is included.

Workers' compensation cases increasingly involve psychological injury claims: stress disorders, PTSD, and related conditions that result directly from workplace events. Physicians performing impairment ratings on these cases face a specific challenge: the AMA Guides, which govern impairment rating methodology in most states, do not provide a framework for evaluating these conditions.

The Stress-PTSD Program was developed to address this gap directly. The curriculum covers the clinical basis for psychological impairment evaluation, the legal framework governing these evaluations in workers' compensation proceedings, and the methodology for producing reports that are accurate, consistent, and defensible.

The course is open to any healthcare provider who performs impairment ratings. It is required by Nevada state law for all physicians performing workers' compensation impairment ratings, regardless of specialty. For physicians outside Nevada, completion is strongly recommended for anyone performing psychological impairment evaluations in workers' compensation or motor vehicle cases.

Nevada physicians: this course satisfies the state requirement for psychological impairment rating certification under Nevada workers' compensation law. Both you and AAEME are required to submit your certificate of completion to the Nevada Division of Industrial Relations.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Stress-PTSD Program

Common questions about the Stress-PTSD Program, the assessment, and how it fits into your overall impairment rating certification.

Yes. The Stress-PTSD program is the same as the Neuropsychological Impairment Rating Program you can find here, but uses the Nevada-specific title and produces the Nevada-specific certificate that is required by the DIR. Nevada physicians who perform impairment ratings are required to complete this course by state law.

No. There are no prerequisites for the Stress-PTSD Program. Any Nevada licensed healthcare provider may enroll. That said, we recommend completing NIRSAT™ certification first if you are new to impairment rating methodology, as that foundation will make the Stress-PTSD content easier to apply in practice.

The Stress-PTSD assessment is completion-based, not score-based. You must complete it, but there is no minimum passing score. It is different from the NIRSAT™ and CIRS™ exams, which require a 75% passing score and are separately priced. The Stress-PTSD assessment is included in the $995 course fee with no additional enrollment or cost.

Completing the Stress-PTSD Program satisfies Nevada's psychological impairment rating requirement, but DIR directory listing for impairment ratings requires NIRSAT™ certification as well. Both you and AAEME are required to submit your Stress-PTSD certificate of completion to the DIR. AAEME submits certificates to the DIR twice monthly. You must also submit your certificate directly. See our Nevada requirements page for full details on the DIR listing process.
